New legal counsel has been appointed to represent one of the defendants in the Keith Castro murder case.
Gloria Rudolph has been appointed to represent Joshua Palacios, who is accused of shooting Keith Castro after separate defendant Thomas Taitano allegedly beat Castro with a baton in Yigo in July of 2019.
The decision to appoint new legal counsel was made by Superior Court Judge Vernon Perez who told Palacios that this will not be repeated, addressing concerns of multiple appointments not being allowed.
The request for new legal counsel was initially made by Palacios who was represented by Terrance Timblin. The two came to the conclusion that new legal counsel would be appropriate, Timblin asserting this to the court through a separate motion to withdraw.
Judge Perez stated that given the stage of the case and for the defendant to be confident with his legal counsel’s representation, the appointment of a new attorney is warranted.
Eyeing a trial beginning no sooner than December, Judge Perez indicated that he needed to speak with Palacios and Rudolph to prepare. It was noted that trying the felony case would be dependent on identifying the venue for the proceedings which meets public health social distancing requirements.
However, at this time Rudolph’s appointment is pending the determination of any conflict of interests.
A hearing has been set for Oct. 29.
