Guam – After two years of construction, the newly renovated and expanded Southern Region Community Health Center in Inarajan was unveiled this morning.
The new facility includes 12 Exam Rooms, a larger space for the Pharmacy, Laboratory and Billing Department and upstairs offices for MIP Eligibility Staff, WIC, and Food Stamp Services.
A new 10,000 gallon water tank, diesel tank and generator will also allow the Health Center to function during a disaster.
“We have three isolation rooms with negative air pressure,” Community Health Centers Executive Director Linda Unpingco-Denorcey said. “We have oxygen tanks too. Patiends during a disaster or storm they can stay here 24/7, they don’t need to go the hospital.”
The $7.8 Million project was funded through the Tobacco Asset Back Bonds and Four Grants, including a grant from the Departmetn of the Interior.
Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Areas Tony Babauta and Governor Eddie Calvo delived today’s Key Note Addresses. Both of them emphasized that the expansion was made possible through collaborative efforts.
“It all goes back to working together,” Governor Calvo said pointing out the involvement of Unpingo-Denorcy, the Legislature, His Administration and Fedearal Partners like Babauta’s office. “What is good for the people of Guam when you do that is the fruit of the those labors.”
