The Guam Visitors Bureau announced Thursday that it will not be holding its traditional Tumon holiday illumination this year.
GVB vice president Gerry Perez said there were no bid submissions for the holiday illumination project and local supplies have already been sold out.
With regard to the New Year’s Eve fireworks, Perez said the competitive field was limited with only two local fireworks concessionaires.
There were also complaints received from the most recent Liberation Day fireworks display and the fireworks company “felt intimidated” by GVB’s due diligence questions on details like display images, elevation, and location.
Perez said GVB decided to just save money and use the allotted money for the bigger Liberation Day fireworks display next year.
He added that Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero has already been informed about this and she approves of GVB’s decision.
The Hagatna fireworks show, however, will still proceed with GVB sponsorship.
