NWS & Guam Civil Defense Eying Tropical Disturbance SW of Guam, No Warnings or Watches

Guam – Guam Civil Defense and Office of Homeland Security has issued a statement indicating that they, along with the National Weather service, are closely monitoring a developing Tropical Disturbance south-west of Guam.

There are NO watches or warnings currently in effect for Guam or the Marianas.

The Tropical Disturbance is passing to the southwest of Guam and is not expected to pass over the Marianas.

THE TROPICAL STORM WATCH FOR WOLEAI AND FARAULEP IN YAP STATE HAS BEEN CANCELLED. DAMAGING WINDS ARE NOT EXPECTED FOR THOSE ISLANDS.

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR FAIS AND ULITHI IN YAP STATE. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF 40 MPH OR GREATER ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN 48 HOURS.

AT 700 PM CHST…0900Z…THE CENTER OF TROPICAL DEPRESSION 11W WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 8.4 DEGREES NORTH AND LONGITUDE 142.8 DEGREES EAST.

THIS IS ABOUT  100 MILES NORTHWEST OF WOLEAI120 MILES WEST OF FARAULEP180 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF FAIS
240 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF ULITHI 330 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF YAP AND 375 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF GUAM.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION 11W IS MOVING NORTHWEST AT 21 MPH. THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE OVER THE NEXT 24 HOURS WITH A DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE 35 MPH. TD 11W IS EXPECTED STRENGTHEN DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS AND MAY BECOME A TROPICAL STORM BY EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

REPEATING THE 700 PM POSITION…8.4 DEGREES NORTH LATITUDE AND 142.8 DEGREES EAST LONGITUDE…MOVING NORTHWEST AT 21 MPH WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 35 MPH.

AN INTERMEDIATE ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AT 1100 PM THIS EVENING…FOLLOWED BY THE NEXT SCHEDULED  ADVISORY AT 200 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING.
