NWS advisories in effect; outdoor burning is not recommended

A high surf advisory is now in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6:00 p.m. Monday. Along north facing reefs, hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet.

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam have the following advisories in effect:

A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. this evening. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet along north facing reefs are expected. Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injury.

A high risk of rip currents is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Tuesday afternoon. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore. Strong rip currents will be life threatening along north and east facing reefs.

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. East winds of 15 to 25 knots and seas of 6 to 9 feet will produce hazardous conditions for small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in these conditions.

A fire weather watch remains in effect for Guam until Tuesday afternoon. A fire weather watch means critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. East winds at 20 to 25 mph with frequent higher gusts and stronger winds in higher elevations is expected. Any fires that develop could spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
