Typhoon Mawar is moving towards Guam and intensifying, according to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam.
As of 2:22 p.m. May 23, Mawar is about 180 miles southeast of Guam radar with maximum sustained winds that have increased to near 140 mph.
“Radar reflectivity data shows concentric eyewalls,” said the NWS. “The eye is also beginning to take on an oblong shape.”
Mawar is forecast to intensify through tonight. Typhoon force winds extend outward from the center up to 25 miles. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 100 miles.
Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Guam and Rota. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected late this evening, with the onset of typhoon force winds forecast for Wednesday morning.
