Of the 105 additional cases of COVID-19 reported today, the breakdown provided by the Joint Information Center shows that the majority comes from the military/Department of Defense.

According to JIC, 71 of the 105 cases came from testing at Naval Health Research Center (NHRC)1/U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam.

It’s unclear, however, whether this total is just from a single day of testing.

Earlier, the Navy stated that the previous DoD high of 18 positive COVID test results from U.S. Naval Hospital Guam testing announced Friday, August 14, were not all conducted on August 13.

According to Joint Region Marianas, the results were aggregated from tests performed August 11-13 and persons tested included a mix of active duty service members, National Guard members, civilians, and military dependents.

As for today’s tally, the US Navy’s LCDR Rick Moore said individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 as announced in the August 20 JIC release included active duty service members, National Guard members, civilians and military dependents, who presented to military healthcare clinics or who were identified for testing through contact tracing.

Moore said the results were aggregated from tests performed August 17-19. None of these individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 announced in the August 20 JIC release reported recent travel.

JIC Release No. 278

Of the 105 new cases, 51 cases were identified through contact tracing and eight cases reported recent travel and were identified in quarantine.

To date, there have been a total of 704 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 6 deaths, 381 not in isolation, and 317 cases in active isolation. Of those cases, 578 are classified as civilians and 126 are military service members.
