Over 200 People Trained In Time For Suicide Awareness Month

517

Guam- September is Suicide Awareness Month and the Department of Mental Health has numerous activities lined up to spread the message on this sensitive subject.

At Thursday’s proclamation signing in Adelup, PEACE spokesperson Christine Camacho says they’ve trained over 200 people to build up the amount of first responders for suicide prevention. She adds they’re working with the Guam National Guard, the University of Guam and Youth for Youth to empower people to help someone with thoughts of suicide and to not just refer them for intervention.

“So we’ve trained, like I said, about over 200 people” said Camacho. “So as far as bringing awareness and increasing capacity, I think that’s our key message…is to tell them we could help them to help save lives.”

Friday is also World Suicide Prevention Day. For more information,  log on to www.peaceguam.org .
