Guam- The 3rd Annual Chamorro Lunar Festival was a smashing success over the weekend.
The event was held on the grounds of the Guam Fishermen’s Cooperative Association on Sunday next to the Chamorro village. Despite the rainy weather, President Manny Duenas says over 2,000 people came over to experience the various arts and crafts, fresh produce, carabao rides and locally made jewelry. He loved that people from the community made time to support the Chamorro culture.
“That’s the greatest thing about this whole event, it’s community driven” said Duenas. “It is not government driven. It’s not NGO driven. It’s community driven. People got together and said we want to do thois for our culture and they did it. And I think I’m really proud of that.”
Although he hopes for more support in the future, Duenas says there are no plans to expand the festival because it should be kept as a community event.
