Guam – In other GPD news Senator Adolpho Palacios has written a letter to Bureau of Budget and Management Research director Bertha Duenas expressing concerns with GPD’s attempts to fill the vacancy for police commander and police major.

Palacios says that the attempt to fill these vacancies comes at a time when GPD is struggling to pay overtime owed to police officers, pay vendors and pay the lease for it’s headquarters. He says the filling of the police commander and police major positions are not as urgent as the need to fill the vacant positions for patrol officers.

“There’s money that can be applied elsewhere you know that filling those vacancies implies additional salaries to those promotees,” said Palacios adding “If there’s money like I said field two or three more patrol officers positions or pay the overtime that’s owed to all of these police officers.” The senator feels that these vacancies should be left for the new chief to fill when a new one is appointed at the beginning of next year which is just three months away.
