Pangelinan Urges Fernandez to “Immediately Begin” Implementation of Law Allowing Use of Airline Mileage for Student Travel

Guam – Senator Ben Pangelinan has written to Guam DOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez asking him to “immediately begin” implementation of a law requiring airline mileage earned from GovGuam paid travel to be used to send eligible students on off-island trips.

In his letter, Senator Pangelinan writes that the law requires Fernandez to “bring together all the government entities to promulgate rules” and those rules then must be approved by the Legislature before the program can go into effect.

The Senator says his office has been getting a number of requests for financial support from students in need of travel assistance in order to attend academic or athletic opportunities off island.

“The sooner these rules and regulations are promulgated and sent to the Guam Legislature for review and action,” states Pangelinan, “the sooner  our students will be able to take advantage of miles for off island travel.”
