Guam- The Hagatna Central Park plans are moving forward under the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Director Pete Calvo tells PNC they still want to create multiple fields near the Hagatna pool and tennis court area. He mentions Adelup field, which is more of a parade field, has been overused as a practice ground for various sports teams. He notes Hagatna sorely lacks a multipurpose sports park to accommodate all the sports activities that go on around the island. At this point, Calvo says they need to overcome the hurdle of wetland designation in the area identified for the Hagatna Central Park. He mentions the next step is getting the word out.
“At this point, we already made the plan” said Calvo. “We’ve requested reconsideration of the wet land designation. We’ve identified property that actually could make up for the resignation of the property back to developable land.”
Calvo says they need to meet with the Hagatna Restoration Foundation on this plan and how it will help boost Guam’s capital city. He also believes legislation will eventually be required for the wetland trade off and conversion process.
