Guam – The patient call system on the third floor of the Guam Memorial Hospital has been down and patients are having to ring care bells for assistance.
GMH Spokesperson June Perez says it’s been several months since their electronic intercom system went down in their medical-surgical unit. In the meantime, they are utilizing care bells for patients to ring when they need assistance.
Perez says in addition, they’ve also brought on additional staff to conduct extra rounds on the third floor.
She notes that they are currently in the middle of the procurement process and are close to finalizing a bidder to sign a contract with for repair of the intercom.
Perez could not provide a timeframe as to when they expect the patient call system to be repaired. She adds that the intercom system uses specialized equipment and has to be ordered off-island.
