Patient Rushed to GMH From GRMC Has Died

A 69-year-old man who arrived at GRMC Monday night had to be rushed to GMH instead because emergency services are not yet available at the newly opened Dededo hospital.

Guam – The man who was rushed to the Guam Memorial Hospital from the newly opened Guam Regional Medical City on Monday night has died.

PNC received a tip that the 69-year-old patient who first went to GRMC with reported chest pains but was later rushed to GMH died at GMH a few days later.

We contacted GMH Public Information Officer June Perez who confirmed that the man died Wednesday evening. Perez could not disclose the man’s identity or the nature of his illness.

On Tuesday, GRMC told PNC that a physician at GRMC medically assessed the patient when he first arrived Monday night. But because GRMC’s emergency services are not yet available, the physician called for an ambulance to transport the man to GMH.

GRMC opened its doors on July 1 and held a grand opening celebration on July 20, announcing that their services would gradually expand. They just completed their first successful operation at the hospital last week.

GRMC Associate Chief Medical Officer Dr. Felix Cabrera said in an email statement that GRMC’s emergency services will be activated later this month.
