Guam – Payless Markets adopted a section of road in front of the Shirley’s Coffee Shop in Hagatna Friday.
A sign displaying their commitment to keep that section of road clean and well maintained was unveiled.
The roadway adoption program is part of Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio’s and his wife Notch Shimizu’s island wide beautification campaign. Their campaign began with bus stop painting and has now moved into the adopt a roadway program with Payless supermarkets as it’s first corporate sponsor.
Payless executive vice-president Kathy Calvo Sgro explains.
“This really is a win win for our community and our employees and our managers are responsible for making sure that this area of the road is cleaned and maintained and we encourage other companies to do so perhaps every mile of road on this island will be adopted by a family an organization a company and truly it’s a win win for our entire island,” said Sgro.
Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio says this is just one of many adopt-a-road projects to come. Payless has also adopted two other roads one in Mangilao and one in Dededo.
