Guam – Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC), in partnership with the Mayors’ Council of Guam, is hosting a series of village meetings to discuss the Partnerships for Success grant.

Partnerships for Success grant is an opportunity for non-profit organizations to receive support in implementing prevention initiatives on Guam. Twenty-two (22) individuals attended the first Gathering of Pacific Islanders for PEACE (GOPEACE) village meeting held in Dededo on December 18, 2013.

They represented non-profit organizations such as the Boys Scouts of America, the Rotary Club of Northern Guam, CAPE, St. Paul’s Christian Church, Guam Amateur Baseball Association, East West Presbyterian Church, Manna Fellowship, and the Rotaract Club of Marianas. Attendees learned about Guam’s 5-Year Strategic Prevention Plan and were also invited to engage with the GBHWC-PEACE office in implementing this plan through their local organizations.

Mayor Savares shared “We see and hear our island’s problems every day, and we are thankful for this opportunity to take action towards local solutions.” The Mayor encouraged those present to start prevention initiatives in the village, and partner with each other and the PEACE office to address the community’s challenges with regard to substance abuse and suicide prevention.
