PHASE II of Hagatna Bridge Project Begins SATURDAY; 2 Center Lanes Next to Be Closed

Guam – The Department of Public Works has issued an alert that Phase I of the Hagatna Bridges Reconstruction Project is now substantially complete and its contractor, Core Tech International, will now be entering into Phase II of the project.

Phase II will involve major lane shifts for southbound traffic on Marine Corps Drive. The two outermost lanes currently under construction will be opened up and the two center lanes of the roadway will be closed for refurbishment and reconstruction of that section of the bridge and roadway. The contractor will begin shifting the traffic lanes into their new configuration at 5:00 a.m. this Saturday, May 25.

“ We are very pleased that Phase I has reached substantial completion despite some unforeseen delays” said Carl Dominguez, Director of the Department of Public Works. “We now look forward to an aggressive schedule for Phases II and III of this very important project, and we thank the public for their continued patience as we work to complete this project.”

Phase II roadwork is expected to be completed this summer and the bridge work for Phase II will be completed in September. Route 8 roadwork is expected to be completed this November with the entire Route 1 bridge rehabilitation project slated for completion by March of 2014.

The public is advised to proceed with caution through the area and observe all traffic signs and flagmen.
