Pika’s Best, an annual choice award given out by the Pacific Daily News as determined by the people of Guam, has recognized Sorensen Media Group for having the best radio station and on-air personality.
Every year, the people of Guam vote on the best of everything from GovGuam agencies, bakeries, buffets, and even barbecues in the Pika’s Best contest.
But what made this year so unique is that this is the first time for the island to vote for best radio station and best on-air radio personality.
Power 98 Guam, one of the stations of the Sorensen Media Group, took the victory this year.
Reese The Beast, Power 98 program director, said: “We at Power 98 are so humbled by this award. It’s because of the amazing team we have..that we are able to be called the best. I want to thank them because they put on the show that made our listeners tune in, and stay tuned… And of course, I have to thank our listeners. I hope they know this really would not have been possible without them.”
She added: “Thank you for choosing us on your way to work, on your way home, or just on the road and needed to hear your favorite song or your favorite personality.
We also want to shout out the other nominees. They have obviously worked hard to be nominated.”
Kyle Mandapat, SMG vice president for radio operations, was nominated and voted best on-air radio personality.
In accepting the award, Mandapat said: “I am so blessed to be able to do what I love, with people I love, to support my family. I am so grateful for all those who helped guide me through the years, to my family for always supporting me, and to all those who have let me be a part of their morning commute, their events, their special occasions, and their lives through their speakers. Thank you to the entire SMG team. This is a team win!”
