Prisoners, officers shelter in place as Hagatna precinct reports unexploded ordnance

Guam – The Hagatna Police Precinct and its surroundings are in the clear this evening after an evacuation, due to the discovery of an unexploded ordnance this afternoon.

The Guam Police Department reported that the Offices of Homeland Security and Civil Defense received a report from 911 dispatch of the ordnance at the Hagatna Police Precinct at 3:20 p.m. and that the all-clear was issued by 4:00 p.m.

Police report that GPD and the Guam Fire Department were on the scene, and that an explosives ordnance disposal unit was called to the site. Chalan Santo Papa Juan Pablo Dos, Aspinall Avenue, and West O’Brien Drive were all closed for the emergency, and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes. Prisoners inside Hagatna lockup were then ordered to shelter in place.

Homeland Security and Civil Defense remind residents and visitors to practice the 3R’s of Explosive Safety: Recognize the munition, Retreat by leaving the area, and Report the siting by calling 911.
