Procedural Error Leads to Release of Driver Accused in Dump Truck Death

Guam – The dump truck driver accused in last month’s fatal accident of a pedestrian along Rt. 15 was released from custody Tuesday and did not appear before the court.

Vincent Roy Reyes was arrested Monday by GPD Highway Patrol Division on charges of Reckless Driving and Vehicular Homicide, but because of a procedural error, Reyes file was not uploaded into the computer system and was not available to the Attorney General’s Office in time for Reyes scheduled court appearance.

AG Spokesman Bryan Cruz issued a statement saying ” Unfortunately, the Prosecution Division of the Attorney General’s Office had no other recourse than to release Reyes this afternoon, pending receipt of the completed police reports.”

Reyes was arrested in connection with the death last month of 57 year old Victoria Camacho who was struck by the dump truck Reyes was driving while she was crossing Route 15 by Ladera Towers.

On the K-57 Breakfast Show Wednesday GPD Chief Frank Ishizaki apologized to the Camacho family for the processing error. He said the case against Reyes has not been dropped. But the Chief aid it would be up to the Attorney General’s Office however to decide how and when to proceed.

In a release from the AG’s Office, Chief Prosecutor Dianne Corbett said, “Based on the reports provided by GPD thus far, we did not have enough information at the time to bring Reyes before the court, however, once our office is in receipt of the completed reports, they will be immediately reviewed and the appropriate charges will then be filed in court.”
