Guam- The Department of Public Health and Social Services is pleased to announce that the STD/HIV Program Public Information Campaign Prutehi Hao Public Service Announcement (PSA), So Smart So Safe, won first place as the “Best Public Service Announcement” at the 10th Annual Urban Mediamakers Film Festival (UMFF) held October 14th to 16th 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia. Since its official launch in January 2011, the PSA screened at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and the Guam International Film Festival. The project engaged adolescents and the community to decrease STD and HIV infections through an approach suitable to young people.
Messages to promote STDs and HIV/AIDS awareness, safer behaviors and responsibilities are performed by compelling spoken-word artists and dancers. The PSA continues to promote STD/HIV prevention, awareness, and encourages young people under the age of 25 years of age to adopt safer sex behaviors and healthier choices. The STD/HIV Program, Bureau of Communicable Disease Control is honored to work with many young, local, talented people who contributed in the making of this vital public health PSA under the guidance of Films by Youth Inside filmmaker, Alex C. Munoz that also involved the collaboration of numerous individuals and community partnerships.
