Public Hearing on Charter School Funding to be Held Tomorrow

A public hearing on Vice Speaker BJ Cruz’s Bill 419 will be held Thursday at 1pm

Guam – With iLearn Academy Charter School hoping to open it’s doors early next year, a public hearing on a bill to fund the charter school is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Vice Speaker BJ Cruz introduced Bill 419 to amend the law funding charter schools so that an allotment can be given to the newly approved school. The bill appropriates $5,500 per pupil to the school but only up to 250 students. It also limits the per pupil allotment for the existing Guahan Academy Charter School to 520 students.

iLearn has submitted a budget to the legislature that requests funding for 358 students. Cruz told PNC he is willing to amend the bill, as long as they have the support of the charter school council and also depending on testimony given tomorrow.
