Public safety continues to be one of the concerns raised by voters in this year’s election.

Due to the increase of crime, Matthew, a resident of Dededo, has been hesitant to go out and often triple checks the security of his home.

“Due to the recent string of crime in my area, I had to install my security cameras,” he said.

Matthew added that he hopes this election will improve the safety of our island by bringing in more police officers.

Meanwhile, former Vice Mayor of Dededo Andrew Peter Benavente feels safe in the village and believes that GPD has been doing its part in keeping the community safe.

In an interview with PNC, Benavente says that safety isn’t the only thing that needs to be done.

“There’s a lot of things that need to be done, such as road pavements, potholes, intersections that are blocked amongst other things,” he said.

He added that things will get done, it just takes time and resources.
