Guam – The top seeds in the Mixed 4.0 doubles were pushed to three sets early in the draw to stay alive in the 2012 Quality Cup tennis tournament at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa tennis courts.
Top seeds Benson Au-Yeung and partner April Flores needed more than two hours to quell opponents Swami and Junho Sasaki, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in a super tiebreaker third set.
It was a similar scenario for second seeded David Lai and partner Lydia Tan of Saipan. Lai/Tan dropped the first set 5-7, then won the next two, 6-3, 10-2 to eliminate the father-daughter tandem of Landon Nadler and Camdyn Nadler. Lai and Tan will next face Darryl Navarro and Margaret Terry, who cruised past Aki and Kazuya Shintani, 6-2, 6-2.
