Guam – Quality Cup tennis action continues Friday with the tournament’s skilled singles division contests starting with 5:30 p.m. matches at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa and Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort tennis courts, and the Rick Ninete Tennis Center in Hagatna.
At Hilton, Masakazu Takahashi takes on Boys 18-and-under semifinalist Alexander Ornbo in the Men’s 4.5 division to begin the busy tennis weekend. Other matches at 5:30 p.m. include Swami vs. Saipan’s Chuck Sayon and Kenta Tanimoto facing Tae Heon Kim. In the battle between Quality Distributors executives, president and founder George Lai takes on his general manager, Landon Nadler.
Heavily decorated junior champion Emil Christian Penafiel is seeded No. 1 in the Men’s 4.5 division, while George’s brother Sam, is at the other end of the draw seeded No. 2. RNTC also will be bustling with tennis action with first round matches in the Men’s 3.0 division. Mark Joseph Burgos faces Juancho Solivio, Cliff Paulin takes on Edward Chung and Gary Sung battles Victor Tuncap, all at 5:30 p.m., to stay in the draw.
The lone match at Sheraton will pit Daniel Dimag against Agustin Davalos in the Men’s 2.0 division at 5:30 p.m.
Women’s division matches begin Saturday. The first match is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. at Sheraton in the Women’s 4.0 division, featuring Alyssa Bristol versus Diane Lee.
Friday also is the registration deadline for entry in both the mixed doubles and age category singles divisions.
