Guam – Quality Distributors will be fighting for a spot in the finals of the Beck’s 5th Annual GFA Cup this weekend against Cars Plus FC at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon in a re-match of last year’s championship game.
Semifinal action begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Joining Quality and Cars Plus in the semifinals are Guam Shipyard and Fuji Ichiban Espada FC, all Division I teams from this season’s Budweiser Men’s Soccer League. Quality Distributors has secured their place in the finals in all GFA Cup tournaments to date, winning three times. Quality’s lone loss came in 2010 after losing to Guam Shipyard in the final.
Quality defeated Coffee Beanery United FC 11-2 for the semifinal berth against Cars Plus, 7-3 winners over the Cobras Saturday. Matt Cruz and Aric Jorgensen led Quality with a hat trick each, while James Bush, Kai Cryster, Scott Spindel, Devin Maluwelmeng and Irving Mercado each added one. Donovan Reyes scored twice for Coffee Beanery.

In Saturday’s late game, Ian Mariano led Cars Plus with hat trick, including a successful penalty kick in the first half. Jonathan Odell scored twice for Cars Plus and teammates Dylan Naputi and Eduardo Calvo scored one each. Gregory Rodriguez completed a hat trick for the Cobras on a deflected pass from Cars Plus goalkeeper Joe Laanan.
Guam Shipyard upended the Bank of Guam Crushers 9-1 to punch the team’s ticket to the semifinals. Jason Cunliffe and Francisco Santos both scored twice for Shipyard and teammates Aaron Jackson, Jared Quichocho, Donald Weakley, Jason Landstrom and B.J. Atalig added one goal each. Jesse Mesa scored Bank of Guam’s lone goal.
Fuji Ichiban was the last team to earn a spot in the semifinals, defeating the Masters division Rovers FC 9-1. David Cruz finished the game with a hat trick and Christian Schweizer scored two for the winning team. Thaddeus Atalig, Jimmy Okuhama, Shinya Yasuda and Anthony Espinosa each scored one for Fuji Ichiban. Carlos Barajas scored for the Masters Division Rovers.
The dck Masters won the Silver Cup championship of the inaugural Beck’s Women’s GFA Cup Sunday after holding down the Paintco Lady Strykers 4-3. Although Alexy Barbe evened the match at 2-all in the 50th minute on a penalty kick, dck’s Kyung Shipman and Ashley Gamache later scored a goal each in the deciding half to take a 4-2 lead with 15 minutes left to play. The Strykers managed one last goal after two dck defenders collided with each other and created an opening for Felicia Alumbaugh to score. Gamache and Camren Kane scored dck’s first-half goals. Phoebe Minato scored for the Lady Strykers in the first half.
The Masters and the Lady Strykers earned their spots in the lower bracket championship by defeating Guam Shipyard and Quality Distributors, respectively. The Orange Crushers never dropped a game en route to the team’s 3-2 Gold Championship win in extra time over Hyundai April 15 to secure the tournament’s first-ever women’s title
