St. Paul Warriors Janniliese Quintanilla scored a game-high 20pts in a Friday night victory over the Okkodo Bulldog. The IIAAG Girls High School defending champions Warriors handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season and continued their 2018 season unbeaten streak as they are now 4-0.
St Pauls led 34-21 at the halfway mark, with consistent full-court defensive pressure. Warriors Quintanilla(12pts) and AOL transfer point guard Kirsten Silva(9pts) carried the bulk of the scoring. But the pesky Bulldogs continued to chip away and managed to get within 5pts in the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter as Point Guard Racquel Camacho, bringing the home crowd fans to their feet, would hit 3 consecutive trifecta’s. But that’s as close as the Bulldogs would get as they would miss several golden offensive opportunities in the closing minutes of the last Qtr.
“Okkodo plays a very physical game. We knew that coming in. But our defense proved to be the difference in our victory tonight.” Said Warriors Head Coach Paul Pineda. “We’ll just enjoy this win and take it one game at a time. Southern is our next opponent and hopefully, we can carry our momentum into Tuesday against another unbeaten team, the Guam High Panthers”
Quintanilla led St. Pauls with a game high 20pts. Followed by balanced scoring from teammates Silva & Niah Siguenza with 11pts each. And Isla Quinata with 10pts.
Okkodo’s Camacho finished the night with a team high 16pts along with four 3 pointers. Forward Danica Cabrera right behind her with 15pts.
