Rear Adm. Gumataotao Promoted to Commander Carrier Strike Group 11


Guam – A native son of Guam is climbing higher and higher in the ranks of the U.S. Navy.

Rear Admiral Peter A. Gumataotao, who was born on Guam and raised in Sinajana, has been promoted to Commander of  Carrier Strike Group 11  which is based out of San Diego California.

The Strike Group includes the flagship USS Nimitz and several combat and support ships.

Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo called the new assignment significant because of the responsibility that comes with it, along with the promotion to 2 stars. Bordallo commended Admiral Gumataotao for his leadership saying “Admiral Gumataotao continues to make us all proud of his accomplishments.”

His appointment still requires Senate confirmation. 

Gumataotao graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1981. He has been serving as Commander of the U.S. Naval forces in Korea.
