Guam – The George Washington High School track and field was filled with supporters for the annual Relay For Life event last Friday.
Hundreds gathered for the event hosted by the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer.
United, cancer warriors, survivors, caretakers, family, friends and other stakeholders completed laps around the track as donors pledged their support for each lap completed.
Toward the end of the night, teams also lit luminaries in support or in memory of a loved one with cancer. This year, 65 teams participated in the relay event with over 300 registered participants.
This is now the second year that the event was shortened to end at 12:01 am instead of all night long. This was done to accommodate those who may still be receiving treatment, for the young and the old.
This year’s goal was to raise $485,000. We’ll know more at a later time if the American Cancer Society was able to meet their goal this year.
