Rev & Tax Closed for a Second Day Because of “Overpowering” Smell From Electrical Fire

Guam – The Department of Revenue and Taxation is closed again today [Wednesday], following an electrical fire yesterday that destroyed a UPS unit and filled the facility with hazardous smoke.

Deputy Rev & Tax Director Marie Benito told PNC News this morning that EPA did a test of the air quality this morning and found no harmful chemicals, but she said when staff came in at 7:30am “the smell was over powering” and some staffers became “nauseous.”

For the safety of employees and the public, the building will remain closed again today, said Benito.

She is hopeful that Rev & Tax can re-open tomorrow.

Fans will be running all day in an effort to clear the air.

The Governor’s Office also sent out a release annoucing the closure.
