Route 17 Cross Island Road by Windward Memorial and Tarzan Falls was closed Wednesday afternoon due to an automobile fire and a downed power pole, the Guam Police Department announced.

The Guam Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a power line fire at 2:51 pm Wednesday. GFD units arrived on the scene of a power line, auto and grass fires.

Units secured the auto fire and monitored the grass fire until the Guam Power Authority crew on the scene secured the power line.

No injuries were reported.

Due to the fire, GPA also announced an unscheduled power outage that affected parts of Talofofo and along Route 17 to Apra Heights Area.

According to GPA, the fire flames in the area were burning high, nearly reaching the GPA power lines.

Power was interrupted in Talofofo, from the Talofofo Golf Course area along the left side to Route 17 towards Apra Heights, Bishop C. Flores Street, past the GPA wind turbine.

The fire was extinguished and GPA crews replaced a 55-foot power pole, with lines and

GPA re-routed power to all customers in the area affected by the earlier outage.

A new power pole was set in place and the new line and hardware were energized soon after.
