Guam – Get ready for traffic delays on Route 16.
Navy contractors will begin making permanent repairs to the portion of roadway where a giant hole caused major delays in October
The sinkhole was caused by a water main break which washed away most of the ground below the road. Once the water main was fixed contractors filled the hole and patched up the roadway quickly but that was only a temporary fix.
Beginning this Saturday DZSP21 will begin the permanent repairs. Joint Region Marianas Public Affairs Officer Lt Tim Gorman says the inner lanes will be closed for the repairs from December 27th to January 31st.
That means traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction while the roadwork is underway.
The hole was caused by a water main break which washed most of the ground below the road away. Navy contractors were able to fill in the hole and patch the road back up within a few days but that was only a temporary fix.
