Guam- Recently Ron Laguana II jumped into the waters in Mexico with 24 other divers from around the world. And considering the company Laguana was in, third place ain’t too shabby.
Laguana represented Guam and represented the island well in the 5th Annual La Paz 2010 World Cup Invitational Spearfishing Championship. And for his efforts and achievement the Guam Legislature sponsored a Legislative recognition for Laguana, who was accompanied by his father and his wife.
“Ron, this is a token of our esteem and our proudness for your accomplishmnent… and to come into your third place finish is a remarkable achievement and we are all very, very proud of you and encourage you to continue your special gift…,”said Senator Judi Guthertz, who presented the Legislative certificate.
In front of family and friends Laguana accepted the certificate and briefly talked about his experience in the competition and the abundance of fish. He went on to talk about preservation and responsible fishing as well. “On behalf of our sport and our native people I just wanted to continue to show and perpetuate this technique of harvest and to pass on the word that there is another day… and take what you can eat and not profit off our natural resources…,” Laguana said after receiving his certificate.
