Rovers FC Royal and Gold Pick Up Wins in Bud Light Masters Co-Ed Soccer League

Guam -The two Rovers FC teams continue to loot their opponents for goals in the Bud Light Masters Co-Ed Soccer League now past the season’s halfway mark at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon.

The Rovers FC Royal picked up a 6-1 victory over the Paintco Strykers in the early game Saturday evening to stay undefeated in the league and their Gold counterparts shutout the 4Runners 9-0 in the late game to stay in second place. The Rovers FC Gold’s sole loss in the league came June 2 against the Rovers FC Royal.

Although the Rovers FC Royal built a commanding 5-0 lead by the 65th minute of play, the Strykers continued to find ways to push through the midfield. Paintco’s Bobby Torres carried the ball up until just inside the penalty box and was slide tackled from behind to set up a penalty kick opportunity for his team.  The Rovers FC Royal’s George Stewart was able to dive to his left side to block Julio Gonzales’ penalty shot, but Gonzales immediately followed up with a shot to the left post for his team’s lone score of the match.

The Rovers FC Royal’s Take Inoue finished with a hat trick and teammate Richard Hawes knocked in two goals. Pedro Walls scored the Rovers FC Royal’s other goal in the game’s final minute.

The Rovers FC Gold took a 3-0 lead by halftime in the late game and exploded for six in the second half.

The 4Runners’ best opportunity in the second half for a goal came when James Ma led a good run through the midfield and passed the ball forward to teammate Julian Cooper-Nurse. With the Rovers FC Gold’s goalkeeper Dave Bush drawn out on the play, Cooper-Nurse fired his shot to the opposite post, but the ball rolled out just wide on the right side.

The Rovers FC Gold’s Caroline Quigley completed her hat trick by the 77th minute and teammates James Oh, Randy Allen, Susanna Schlub, Manoucher Sabeti and Pedro Marmolejo eached scored once in the contest. The Rovers FC Gold’s other goal came from a 4Runners own goal in the first half.

Masters Co-Ed league play continues Saturday with the Rovers FC Royal taking on Big Blue at 6 p.m. and the Rovers FC Gold facing the Strykers.
