Saipan’s MP United Football Club on Guam SATURDAY

Guam – Youth players from selected soccer teams in Guam will have a chance to test their skills and technique against the visiting MP United Football Club from Saipan in friendly matches beginning Saturday at the Guam Football Association facility in Harmon.

The Tumon Wings U12 team will kick off the day’s matches at 9 a.m. against their MP United FC counterparts at the newly inaugurated turf mini-pitch. The Saipan team plays again at 2 p.m. against the Sidekicks U12 team, and at 5 p.m. against the Strykers.

MP United FC’s U15 team will square off against the U14 Islanders at 3:30 p.m. The day’s final match at 5 p.m. will pit the MP United FC U18 team against Guam’s U14 National Team A on the turf pitch.

Sunday’s first match will feature the U12 Wings and the U12 MP United FC team at 9 a.m. on the turf pitch. Later, Guam’s U15 National Team will take on the MP United FC U15 team at 11 a.m., and the final match at 1 p.m. will pit Guam’s U14 National Team B against MP United FC’s U18 team.

Concurrently with Saturday’s matches, GFA will hold youth coaching courses at the Harmon facility.

The 9 a.m. slot will feature courses for U6 coaches and the 12 noon slot will feature courses for both U8 and U10 coaches.

The youth coaching courses will feature a classroom lecture portion, as well as an on-field practical portion. GFA’s Cheri Stewart and Rhoda Bamba will
conduct the classroom portion of the courses. Kristin Thompson will conduct the practical portion of the U6 course and Samuel San Gil will facilitate the U8 and U10 practicals.

Currently, 10 coaches are signed up for U6 and 13 for U8 and U10. There is no charge for courses and walk-ins are welcome.

If enough coaches for U12 to U16 sign up, a separate course will be conducted by GFA’s Brett Maluwelmeng with assistance from Dave Bush for goalkeeping techniques.
