Tomorrow’s anticipated tree planting in Merizo has been postponed.
The Guam Department of Agriculture’s Forestry and Soil Resources Division announced that the As Gadao Tree Planting event will be postponed until further notice.
According to the division, the postponement is based on recommendations from the Guam Historic Preservation Office to identify, document, and protect cultural resources.
The planned Aug. 31 event would have kicked off the second planting season for the site in Merizo.
Guam Forestry has committed to plant 100 acres and 4,000 trees. Their goal will result in approximately 12,000 trees planted annually for the next three years.
The Forestry Division apologies for postponing Saturday’s tree planting and asks the community to stay tuned for other events.
Cooperative Fire Protection Program Forester Christine Fejeran tells PNC News that they have two more planting events for September and October, as well as an annual Tricks or Trees! event before Halloween.
