Guam- St. John’s School hosted a Chamorro Day celebration in honor of Chamorro month this weekend.
Among the school’s guests was Chamorro Studies Division Administrator Ron Laguana. He says while this is one of several activities done to celebrate Chamorro history, another event that is also being planned is a school weaving competition SATURDAY.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m SATURDAY at the Agana Shopping Center. Students from 12 different schools will be showing and demonstrating how weaving is an important part of the Chamorro culture.
“Weaving is a very important part of our culture and it reflects the things we utilize back in the olden days” said Laguana. “It’s part of the curriculum and kids get really excited in weaving.”
