Guam -The Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities (CAHA), a division of the Department of Chamorro Affairs will be holding the second programming meeting for the Festival of Pacific Arts set to take place on Guam in 2016. The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, at the Guam Community College Student Center, Training Room 5108 and will facilitate continued discussions begun at the first meeting held last November.
CAHA Board Chair Monica Guzman stated it was a productive meeting and expressed her gratitude for the community’s input and support, which included the attendance of more than 40 artists, cultural practitioners, stakeholders and Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz, Chair of the Legislative Committee on Cultural Affairs.
While the venue for the Festival has yet to be determined, as more than 2,500 delegates are expected from 25 island nations across the Pacific, CAHA intends to finalize the two-week program with the disciplines determined at last month’s breakout sessions. The disciplines for consideration include the visual, literary, performing and traditional arts as well as political and social forums such as environmental sustainability, indigenous rights, tourism, education and cultural identity.
