Ryan Cepeda, Second Victim of High Surf Canoeing Tragedy, Laid to Rest

Guam – The National Weather Service’s latest High Surf Warning comes as a victim of high surf was laid to rest today [Monday].

18-year-old Ryan Cepeda was buried at the Guam Memorial Park in Barrigada following a funeral service at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Toto.

Cepeda was among 2 people who drowned 2 weeks ago Sunday in a tragic canoeing accident off Matapang Beach. A freshman at UOG, Cepeda was planning on becoming a teacher.

Hundreds of family and friends packed the Church to pay their final respects to his memory.

Funeral services for the other victim of the canoeing tragedy, 21 year old Kayleen Mendiola, were held Saturday.

Both Medniola and Cepeda were aboard a 6 person outrigger canoe when it capsized in high surf. Neither were wearing flotation devices.
