Agoun’s referendum was introduced to prevent “threatening the livelihood of thousands of GovGuam classified employees.”

Guam – In response to the referendum introduced by Senator Tommy Morrison Senator Frank Aguon Jr. has introduced a bill to protect salaries for classified employees Mayors and Vice-mayors

According to a release from the Senators office the bill was introduced to prevent the proposed referendum from “threatening the livelihood of thousands of GovGuam classified employees.” Senator Morrison’s Bill 280 would allow voters to choose whether or not to keep the Hay recommended raises that were passed in the Competitive Wage Act of 2014. Meanwhile Governor Eddie Calvo says he understands why Senator Morrison introduced his bill.

“This hay plan was put together by professionals we spent a lot of money for it and they looked at the pay scales of the government as one,” said Governor Calvo adding, “Senator Morrison is basically saying hey the legislature has muddled this and has picked and choosed what they believe was right in terms of fair compensation.”

Senator Aguon’s bill is also a referendum on Hay raises but it only includes the raises for the Governor, Lt Governor appointed officials and senators.

  1. So Senator Aguon introduced this legislation to prevent “threatening the livelihood of thousands of GovGuam classified employees.” I wish I could believe this honestly. I feel it would have been more appropriate to say that the legislation was introduced in order to secure thousands of votes come November 2016.
