Guam – Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr. Is giving Senator Tina-Muna Barnes until June 12, to hold three public informational hearings on the now public, final draft of the medical marijuana rules and regulations.

According to a release, as the chairman of the committee on health, Senator Dennis Rodriguez Jr. has appointed Senator Barnes as a subcommittee chairman for the medical marijuana rules and regulations. According to Rodriguez, he expects a committee report based on three public informational hearings no later than June 12. Rodriguez says the report should contain recommendations from the subcommittee, based on the hearings, as to the course of action the legislature should take regarding the implementation of medical marijuana on guam. Earlier this week, the Woman Grow Guam chapter, an organization that started on Guam at the advent of medical marijuana program in 2014, met to discuss issues with the draft and  to shine light on how the community feels medical marijuana should be implemented on Guam. At the meeting, Senator Tina-Muna Barnes asked the group how long they need to prep for a public hearing and chapter president Andrea Pellicani said they could be ready to testify in 5 weeks. Senator Barnes spoke at the meeting about the need for a subcommittee.

“And I will have an official letter asking the oversight chair of health to see how I could help at least create a subcommittee and if I could be able to make that subcommittee and maybe open it to several public hearings again,” said Senator Barnes.

If no action is taken by August 10, the draft will lapse into law as is.

  1. Senator Barnes co-sponsored this measure along with former senator Aileen Yamashita. It is because of Barnes’ actions that I will never vote for this lady. Asking the voters of Guam to decide whether to have medicinal marijuana was paramount to asking kids of they want candy. It’s a no brainer how they’ll respond.
