Senator Barnes Urges Governor to Get Excess Military Lands Back

Guam – Senator Tina Muna Barnes is asking Governor Eddie Calvo to urge the federal government to return excess lands that are not going to be a part of the military buildup.

Senator Barnes says that the Guam Economic Development Authority and the Civilian Military Task Force identified two thousand acres of federal land not slated for the Guam Military Buildup. Barnes is asking that none of these properties be ex-changed for any civilian property that is needed for the buildup. “Are you concerned that they’ll swap it for pagat, the concerns are there to protect pagat there is existing property that is within their footprint that they can look to utilize and i think that they should exhaust all measures first before they think of looking outside,” said Barnes. The Senator is respectfully urging the governor to pursue the return of these excess lands if the military is not going to use them.
