Senator Jose “Pedo” Terlaje is calling for the implementation of Public 35-136, the RISE Act, of which he was a co-sponsor.
The RISE Act would provide $800 to unemployed and private sector individuals who make less that $40,000 a year, providing much-needed stimulus to people who need it most.
“My mother always told me ‘Pedo, respetu para todu. Ayuda I man poble.’ (Pedo, Respect everyone. Help the poor). The RISE Act will help the people who need it most, our working class families, individuals with disabilities, and those who have struggled finding employment in this pandemic,” Terlaje said.
He added: “We must not think of this as an expense, but as investment in helping people maintain the dignity of their lives and provide for their children in the midst of unprecedented times. I co-sponsored this public law because I believe in helping the poor and we must stand firm in that commitment.”
Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero has already stated that there is no more need for the RISE Act because the $1400 COVID relief coming from the federal government already supersedes it.
