Guam – In light of the opposition from Senator Mike San Nicolas Senator Tommy Morrison will withdraw his Hay raise repeal referendum bill.

Senator San Nicolas indicated via his Facebook page that he would not report Morrison’s bill out of his committee. Also Senator Frank Aguon Jr. introduced a similar bill yesterday. Aguon’s bill would also allow voters to decide if the hay raises should be rescinded but only for the Governor, Lt. Governor appointed officials and senators. Aguon’s bill excludes classified employees and mayors. Morrison says he’ll support Senator Aguon’s measure but he also says Aguon has flip flopped on the issue specifically when it comes to the mayors because Aguon voted for bill 204 which would have also excluded classified employees but would have repealed raises for mayors. “Obviously there is a change of position from Senator Aguon and that is good to hear and hopefully in the event of any override attempt by Senator San Nicolas in bill 204 that position will remain consistent,” said Morrison.

The Senator says he hopes this process will bring closure to this issue that has been “politicized” so that the island can move forward.
