Guam – Senator Adolpho Palacios is asking that Interior Assistant Secretary Tony Babauta and Congresswoman Madeline Bordallo to assist the Guam Police Department in getting an extension on their lease of property in Tiyan.
GPD currently pays a lease for it’s headquarters which is situated on property owned by the Antonio B. Wonpat International Airport Authority. The lease expires on September 30th, and Senator Palacios says that airport officials are hesitant to extend the lease. The senator has sent letters to both Bordallo and Babuata asking for at least a two year extension on the lease and asking if they can urge FAA officials to allow GPD to acquire the property where it’s headquarters are currently located. “From my discussion I don’t think this issue can be solved at the local level that’s what prompted me to send the two letters but at the same time we’re continuing to work on the details of the construction the financing and the identification of the property and the location and so forth,” said Palacios.
Senator Palacios has introduced a bill that would commence efforts towards the financing and eventual construction of a permanent GPD headquarters.
