To ensure the processing of hazardous differential pay owed to 113 Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency (GCQA) officers, the Oversight Chair of Border Protection issued a letter to the Governor urging expeditious action.
In light of concerns raised, Senator Telena Cruz Nelson wrote to the Governor on Friday requesting the processing of payment owed to GCQA officers. The Governor’s COVID-19 Response Differential Pay Policy went into effect on April 5, 2020, authorizing three categories of hazardous differential pay to those who continued working in-person during the onset of the pandemic.
Although the hazardous differential payment for two of these categories ceased, Customs officers to date have not received the full payment owed to them since December 19, 2020. Currently, 113 officers are due hazardous differential pay at 10 percent for a total of $243,994.
“As critical members of Guam’s first line of defense during the pandemic, who ensured continued operations and a steady defense for our people, it is paramount that our Customs officers be paid the full compensation they’ve earned,” said Senator Nelson.
