Guam – Senator Rory Respicio was one of 6 Senators who voted against Vice Speaker Cruz’s Bill # 44. That is the measure which would open a 2 year window for filing civil suits against persons alleged to have been involved in the sexual abuse of minors.

In a statement to the media Respicio explained his no vote as follows:

“The focus of the Bill 34 should have been on the victims, however, this bill is fraught with unintended consequences creating an opportunity for lawyers and ambulance chasers.  The most prudent means for protecting our children from sexual predators is Bill 33, which was passed unanimously.”
