Guam – Senators Dennis Rodriguez, Judi Guthertz and Adolpho Palacios have accepted the Governor’s appointment to the Fiscal Responsibility and Tax Refund Commission. However Senator Ben Pangelinan has decided not to accept the offer.

Yesterday [Monday], the Governor announced the appointments of the 4 Democratic Senators to the Commission which he created by Executive order last week.

The purpose of the Commission is to devise strategies to resolve GovGuam’s budget crisis and come up with a plan to pay the tax refunds that are owed to Guam residents, many of whom have been waiting for them for years.

Vice Speaker B.J. Cruz accepted his appointment as Co-Chair of  the Commission last week, but recommended some additional members to the Governor which the Governor agreed to, and announced his selections Monday.

Senator Rodriguez issued a release Monday saying that he accepts the appointment. Senator Palacios told PNC News that he was honored by the appointment and he accepts. Senator Guthertz told PNC she hopes she can help and that she too accepts.

Senator Pangelinan however told PNC News that a commission already exists to address the issues raised by the Governor and he Chairs that commission. He said he prefers to concentrate on the work of the existing commission and he has declined the Governor’s appointment.
