Senators Unanimously Pass Bill To Fund Hospital Utilites and Avert Disconnection

237

Bill appropriates $1.1 million to GMH.

Guam – Lawmakers passed a number of bills today including Vice-Speaker B.J. Cruz’s bill to to save the hospital from utility disconnection

Bill 237 which was introduced just this afternoon appropriates $1.1 million dollars from the Healthy Futures Fund to GMH to avert an impending emergency as the hospital faced utility disconnections. GWA was going to disconnect GMH by tomorrow if they didn’t make a payment by the end of the day today but it was extended in large part because of the bill. Speaker Judi Won Pat waived the public hearing requirement at the Vice-Speakers request due to the impending emergency. The bill made it to the session agenda this afternoon and was passed unanimously. Lawmakers also passed Cruz’s bill 222 which prohibits bonus payments. It was passed 13-2 which means it is likely veto proof.
