“The community can rest a little easier knowing that a predator has been identified,” says the Attorney General’s Office Prosecutor Sean Brown in response to a conviction handed down late Tuesday afternoon.
Jeffrey Guerrero Cruz was found guilty on two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for inappropriately touching an 8-year-old victim. While he was acquitted of the remaining charges, the conviction means that he now faces up to 40 years in prison for the crime.
“Justice was obtained for one of the victims, and the defendant will now have to register as a sex offender,” Brown said.
According to the AG, there are multiple victims in the case ranging from 4 years old to 11 years old at the time of the incidents, which occurred between 2015 and 2018.
Sentencing is set for January 9, 2020.
